Questions and Answers
What is DVD?
DVD (sometimes known as "Digital Versatile Disc" or "Digital Video Disc") is an optical disc storage media format that can be used for data storage, including movies with high video and sound quality. DVDs resemble compact discs as their physical dimensions are the same (12 cm or occasionally 8 cm in diameter) but they are encoded in a different format and at a much higher density.
What is ths HD DVD (High Definition DVD) I'm hearing about?
HD DVD is a digital optical media format which is being developed as one standard for high-definition DVD. HD DVD uses the same CD sized (120 mm diameter) optical data storage media and 405 nm wavelength blue laser.HD DVD has a single layer capacity of 15 GB and a dual-layer capacity of 30 GB.
What is Blue Ray
Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a next-generation optical disc format meant for storage of high-definition video and high-density data. Blu-ray Discs support 25GB for one layer, 50GB for two and 100GB for four Blu-ray gets its name from the shorter wavelength (405 nm) of a "blue" (technically blue-violet) laser that allows it to store substantially more data than a DVD, which has the same physical dimensions but uses a longer wavelength (650 nm) red laser.
Will your DVDs play in consumer set top players?
Yes. As well as computers equipped with DVD-ROM drives.
What system do you use for encoding and authoring?
At DVDTransfer.com we use the Spruce MPX-3000 enocoder and the Spruce Maestro DVD Authoring software.
What kind of DVD do you produce at DVDTransfer.com?
At DVDTransfer.com we produce DVD Videos (DVD Players or computers) and DVD-ROM (computers only).
What's the difference between a DVD movie and computer DVD?
It's important to understand the difference between DVD-Video and DVD-ROM. DVD-Video (often simply called DVD) holds video programs and is played in a DVD player hooked up to a TV. DVD-ROM holds computer data and is read by a DVD-ROM drive hooked up to a computer. The difference is similar to that between Audio CD and CD-ROM. DVD-ROM also includes recordable variations.
